Now that we are moving past the holidays and getting into the new year, we at Gowdy Flooring think it's time to turn an eye to what the coming year has in store for the world of flooring. Last year we saw a lot of exciting new trends and the continued longevity of a few older trends. This year looks like it's going to be another year of contradictions like the last. After all, we never did settle the great "Rustic vs. Ultra-Modern" debate!
We keep the stock at our Amarillo flooring showroom up to date, so we like to think we know a thing or two about what's hot, and what's not, when it comes to the world of flooring. Here's what we see coming down the pike for 2019.
Rustic is Still Big
The rustic trend doesn't look like it will be going anywhere anytime soon, so expect to see a lot of floors that use more organic, hand-crafted looking materials, such as hand-scraped or distressed wood. You're also likely to see a lot of options for wood-look flooring that recreate the appearance of those materials, as well.
Coastal Comfort
If the current trend toward the coastal beach house aesthetic is any indicator, people are pining for a relaxing day at the beach! Long, thin planks in light, washed out whites or grays, are a great way to make a space feel more breezy and open, and are the foundation for an authentic coastal atmosphere.
It's also very likely that people will combine this aesthetic with more rustic looking beach house designs, using the same ideas applied to the rustic materials we mentioned above. Expect to see a lot of gray, hand-scraped wood and wood-look flooring that creates the illusion of driftwood.
Modern Minimalism
So far, it might appear that quaint and rustic is completely dominating the scene, but any flooring store employee can tell you that modern is still going strong. If anything, the trend toward modern minimalism is only deepening. So, expect to see lots of neutral grays, and even full-on blacks, being used in flooring to lay the foundation for the minimalist accents that set the look off so nicely.
